A company I worked for had me on a "pigtail" job at a house where all we did were the lights, 15A receptacles, and light fixtures. We used red wire nuts filled with anti-oxidant compound and made a joint with copper and aluminum. Shouldn't we have done everything in the house that had AL wire landed on it (breakers, oven receptacle, water heater, air handler, condenser, etc.)?

Ideal 300 Pc. Jar Red Wing-Nut? Wire Connector
Model 30-452J. The box didn't say they were rated for aluminum, but thats what the boss wanted us to use.

Re: aluminum / copper pigtailing

Up until 1993, the red 'B' Cap wirenuts were used for connecting Aluminum wiring. That is when UL developed the standard the Model 65 Twister wirnut is designed to. BTW = the only wirenut that I am aware of that is listed for the purpose. Be very careful and read the directions, as the "purple" Model 65 is not permitted to splice aluminum to aluminum, only copper to aluminum.

You didn't waste anybody's time Cartman. I'm glad you asked about it. :)

Edit: I don't think anyone had to fly in on their helicopter for this. :D

Re: aluminum / copper pigtailing

My thoughts about this were proven to be wrong. The Ideal connector is listed for making a copper to aluminum connection. This thread is essentially a duplicate so I am closing this one. If anyone disagrees with me, give me a PM and I will open it up again. :D
