Re: Aluminum Entry Wiring Code status?

The code does not have rules preventing the use of aluminum wire.

The code does indeed not prevent it, but the conditions that surround AL conductors hardly makes it worth it. Many local codes have banned the use of AL service entrance conductors for these reasons.

Most people around here use aluminum for this application. The NEC does not prohibit it and there is no real compelling reason to not use it.

I too have instaled al for service entrance conductors but with that there is proper ways to install it and there are dangerous ways too. And I have seen many a installs go bad and cause a lot of damage. but the main thing is to know how to install it in the proper way.

Re: Aluminum Entry Wiring Code status?

The Aluminum conductor and cable products now on the market have no similarity to the old AL products that were so troublesome.

The new products are manufactured using what is called series 8000 aloy.

They are trouble free, safe , and reliable.

since most all panel lugs are aluminum anyway, using modern Aluminum cable allows for a AL to AL joint and is VERY stable.
