Can I use Aluminum threaded RMC in class 1 division 1 areas? Several local inspectors said no. I am looking at 501.10 A 1.a and then 344.2. Have I been violating the code all these years? The fittings and boxes are all aluminum.
 
There is no code reason why you can't use rigid aluminum conduit in Article 501 applications. You have cited the code sections that apply.
 
This does not make sense unless there is a certain chemical or solvent present that may harm aluminum.

Gas vapors ignite safely every day hundreds of thousands of times inside aluminum engine blocks.
