Aluminun to copper splicing

I live on an island where a ton of the old condos and houses were wired with aluminum conductors. When the conductor fails, we run copper. The AHJ will not allow purple wirenuts. The HO doesn't always want us to rewire the whole circuit (which I always suggest) because they don't want to spend the money. So I have two questions. Is it a code violation to feed through a AL/CU rated receptacle? I know it's bad practice but I can't find anywhere in the code that says you can't. Is there any product out there other than a purple wirenut to make the splice and not run into box fill / space issues. Any help is appreciated.

Do they still make AL/CU receptacles? And wirenuts do not count towards box fill so with the exception of having physically to squeeze them into the box there wouldn't be a code issue. Why wouldn't the AHJ let you used a listed product? IMO by using them, the end result is a better installation than the existing one.

Trevor,
Why wouldn't the AHJ let you used a listed product?
Probably because the AHJ read the misleading information about the purple wirenuts on the CPSC website. The information on that site was provided by the manufacturer of the very expensive competitive product.

I personally don't see a problem with using a CU/AL rated receptacle to transition from Aluminum to Copper conductors.
The receptacles are available at the big box stores, or at least they were the last time I looked.
Just my opinion
