I found an old forum thread discussing running a three phase well motor being supplied by 208 vac to a 230 vac motor. My situation is that I have an antique Onan propane gen set handy at 208 three phase and as Edison in CA is horribly unreliable. I need water in an outage! The pump is 5 hp and the gen set is 4 cyl. Seems it should push 5 hp. The name plate on the gen set lists 18.75 kva. Amps as 52.0, PF=.8. The well motor specs are; kw=3.7 ,FL amps @ 200V=17.2, FL amps @ 230 =15. But it is Edison supplied with 240. I calc that the well motor kva is 3.4. Seems tiny. Am I nuts?
