Hello all,
Here is my situation, we have a large building with two electrical rooms, the room I am concerned with is not the main room but is large ~3,000-4,000sq ft. it has four main tie main line ups 2,000KVA transformers (8) and many breakers to get the power out. There is an exterior wall, on the outside of the wall are several prefabbed structures, sort of like a conex. They butt one end of the conex to the building and cut openings in the conex wall and the building wall. In the conex they have chemicals that they pump to where needed. To get there they pass through the electrical room, the chemical pipe is double contained and does not violate any space required by code. But I don't like it. It has been this way for 10-15 years without any changes ( or leaks ) so I haven't raised a fuss, plus I don't think I have a clear code violation. Now they want to pass chemicals from one conex to another via the electrical room, plus this one is acetone. First I can see how this could grow to more and more pipes, second the electrical room was not built for a corrosive or explosive environment. So my plan is to suggest they find another route for the new piping but I want to be prepared.
My best defense is, if anything were to happen to the gear we would be shut down. I would like to have a code rule but I don't see one.
What would you do? Does this happen in many places? Am I over reacting, after all nothing has happened ( yet ) in 10-15 years.
Thanks for any input
Jeff
