ampacity table /rating for ser cable as a feeder 2008 code

Clarification, to help me understand a local inspectors view on SER cable. He refers me to the following;
Article 338.10 (B) (4) (a) SE cables for interior wiring shall comply with Part II of Article 334.
Article 334.80 referring me to the fact that SER is treated as NM cable & thus is rated in the 60deg C column for ampacity. Thus a #2 aluminum conductor (SER) is only being allowed to be on a maximum
of an 80 amp breaker. I am ok with all of this if the SER is a sub-feed circuit, as to an appliance.
This issue is when it is the feeder for a distribution panel.
I refer back to Article 310.15 (B) (6) and the associated table. This allows rating of 100amp for this
conductor.
Am I reading this incorrectly? If so, please explain. I want to satisfy the inspectors wishes, but I also
want to stand my ground if I am correct, but in a polite manner.
Appreciate any assistance from the forum.

Ohhh... BTW, what edition of the NEC are you installing under?

What used to be 310.15(B)(6) is 310.15(B)(7) in 2011, 2014.

Keeps getting harder to mentally keep track of what location is under what edition... :happyyes:

Is your SER feeding a distribution panel that meets the requirements of 310,15(B)(6) ie:120/240 volt single phase dwelling and a feeder that feeds ALL loads associated with the dwelling ?

This was the point I was attempting to get at when I asked what edition he is under.

310.15(B)(6) {2008 :p} would override the 60?C ampacity requirements under 338.10(B)(4)(a)... IMO.

Since day one, it seems opinions and enforcement on that has varied, however, every seems pretty consistent on the 310.15(B)(6) requirement applying to whole house services and feeders. We will just have to await his answer.
