If I have a 240V subpanel that is located at a distance from a main panel, and I pull 120V at 10 amps from the subpanel, how many amps are running through the line from the main panel to subpanel?

I believe it would be 10 amps since I am not running a transformer to step down the voltage.

This is related to my question about the design of a long-distance cable run in a similiar post.

Thanks again,

Nevermind....

It looks like there are 2 hots and 1 ground in 240V, so each of the hots will carry 1/2 the current.

Thanks,

Greg

Greg, if all 10 amps at 120v are coming from the same phase to neutral, then your feeder to the panel will have 1 leg with 10 amps and the neutral with 10 amps, and the other phase will be zero amps.

The only A the neutral will carry is this difference between your two legs.
