Any residential service electricians here that use the Amprobe AT-1000 wire tracer? If so, do you find that it functions as stated for locating opens in drywall or plaster walls? Are there any drawbacks that you have encountered? Any comments or opinions would be genuinely appreciated.

I have the amprobe circuit tracer, I use it mostly for tracing hot circuits in commercial jobs. It is very accurate for that. IT has three sensitivity settings. the highest level will pick up the signal just by holding it to the panel door or conduit for tracing pipes. The problem with having to find open circuits is the tranmitter only sends the signal from the end of the circuit back towards the panel, and it only sends the signal if it is hot. You cant hook the transmitter up at the panel and trace outward. I dont think it is the best tool for finding open circuits. It is an excellent tool for finding hot circuits in any size building very fast by your self.
