Friday I was out shopping for a new laptop and while comparing displays where else would I surf to but this forum.

I was very surprised to see my signature quote as large as a highway bulletin board.

Now at least 3 or 4 members had nicely mentioned that my signature was large, I had no idea what they meant as on my IE browser in my home the font looked the same size as the font in my posts.

If I went to the 'edit signature' section in IE 6.0 it showed my signature font was Veranda 3 which is normal size.

After seeing it large at the computer store I came home and opened up this forum in my Fire Fox browser.

There it was, my signature as big as a billboard and when I checked the font size in the editor it was listed as Veranda 5.

Now I was really puzzled.

I opened the signature editor in IE 6 and Fire Fox at the same time each on half my screen.

Sure enough FF showed Veranda 5 and IE 6 showed veranda 3. ?????

So I have now edited the signature in Fire Fox and it seems normal now.

I also noticed in Fire Fox a few other peoples signatures where very large.

So to close this up, I apologize to those that tried to give me a subtle hint that I ignored.

Also be aware what you see on your home screen may not be what others see on their screen.

LMAO

I was curious about that - I had mentioned it to Bob myself. I didn't think the signature was in line with your normal M.O. Now, it makes a lot more sense.

Thanks for the explanation. :D

Yep and I thought what the heck do you want micro print?

Along with Peter D and 'realoldman' etc.

I didn't think the signature was in line with your normal M.O.

Good call, when I saw it at the computer store I was embarrassed, particularly considering the context of the quote.

Thanks for the explanation.

No problem, now if someone could explain to me why that was happening I would be less confused.

I think I found the issue.

A setting in the accessibility tab of IE was set to 'ignore specified font sizes of web pages'

I made that change when the forum changed software previously.

Bob,

I've noticed symptoms related to what you discovered, but in a slightly different vein.

I reviewed the IE6 settings that you changed, and on mine, they were unchecked, meaning my copy of IE6 wasn't overriding the web page font sizes.

While composing a response, last week, I used two different quotes. I changed the formatting of a few words in each quote, for emphasis, and found, on preview of the composition, that the font of one quote had changed and that the size had changed, getting larger.

I went back to the composition window, corrected the post, went back to the preview window and found my correction to hold,

but,

now the other quote was messed up.

I went back and forth a couple times, each time the font and size errors moved somewhere else. I finally gave up on getting the gremlins out of my post. I never did get the post to look the way I used to be able to do.

Al, I have had strange formating issues as well.

I was trying to post a section of the MA amendments as one quote.

Each time I tried 'it' (the forum) placed the first line in a separate quote box.

I went back and fixed it but it just kept happening, I ended up just deleting the first line.

I have this to happen often so I just leave it that way and let people think that I am stupid.

(no remarks about not thinking but knowing already please)

This is something Webmaster Joe should have refered to him, in my opinion.

I think there are a few tweaks still necessary in the BBS package.

...maybe it's time to use a different browser?

I think Webmaster Joe has forsaken us, sadly. Perhaps he will indulge us for a few days sometime soon, and fix all the quirks. All in all, it's not running too bad.

I've had the same problem. When you fix it, the forum decides you didn't hit the return key often enough, so it "fixes" that for you at the same time.
