Re: Analog / discreet cable run

You are correct it is a design issue they want to run analog and discreet in the same multi conductor cable.

Re: Analog / discreet cable run

When you find the definitive answer please let me know.

My experience has been:
24VDC discrete (digital) circuits can usually be run in close proximity and parallel to 4-20mA signal without many problems. However, inductive loads (especially solenoids) turning on and off may cause momentary errors on the analog circuits.

The higher the VAC signal the more likely it is to cause problems. Also 0-10VDC and any mV analog signals are probably more prone to interference from other circuits.

Re: Analog / discreet cable run

Thank Jim, that was my take on the matter, but to keep from having to pull more cable one of the design engineers decided to run analog and discreet in the same multi conductor cable. Agreed as long as, as you say, nothing switches on or off everything is hunky dory. When I find a code or spec that pertains I'll let you know.

Re: Analog / discreet cable run

I do not think you will find anything in the form of a code. Sometimes a manufacturer will detail what is acceptable by them. Then it must be installed per manufacturers instructions.
