Is anyone advertising on Angies List? If so how is it?

I didn't think AngiesList was an advertising site, but rather a ratings-style site. Kind of like calling up the BBB and asking about a particular company.

They sell advertising in their magazine that they send to their members also on their website. you can even purchase keywords on their website. The key is you have to have high ratings to beable to do this. when your a super quality company like me you have all A's on angies list and they call you all the time or email you and tell you how much they can increase your sales from their members.

Angies List
Angie's List doesn't call it "paid advertising"
They call it... paying to get a highlighted (yellow) listing & to put you always on the top of the search list, at least the "Top Paid Highlighted" and they will allow 10-20 PAID highlighted listings per category.
I think it does make a difference to be at the top, but its not cheap for the highlighting. Expect $140 a month to be at the top and Highlighted vs. just being on the list for free, once a paid Angie's list member puts you on there.
I've been on there for over 2 years & do notice the calls I receive from Angie's.
They also offer an annual " SUPER SERVICE AWARD" for which I got in '07 & '08
But then, this award is basically worthless to us contractors, unless we pay another fee to angie's List for the privilege to use the "AWARD LOGO"
Basically Angie's List is a good thing for Homeowners, but their policies do not cater towards contractors, even when we pay monthly fees.
If you are not already on Angie's List. It's Easy.
All you have to do is...Offer to buy a one month trial subscription to a good loyal customer and have them write a rave review on your company. From then on you are listed and other Homeowners will use you & write reviews on your behalf.

they keep calling me and hassling me to pay to advertise with them - I finally told them to stop calling.
I saw a review of our company on their site - it was totally fake - like they made it up to look real. I could tell by what was written it was a fake review. then they call me telling me our company is being reviewed on their site and I should advertise there for more exposure. xxxx

Once you get "listed" anywhere, get ready to be bombed by people trying to sell you something. I once tried Yellow Pages and the calls were 20 to 1 from sales people. The ad cost me $400.00 a month and I will never do THAT again
