Maybe it's the crazy time of year but I got called out on another panel fire. This time it was a mobile home that had been fed from a retired chicken house with a 10/3 NM on a 2-pole 100 A to a 100 A main breaker panel! Family made it out but just barely. Fire dept. got there in time to save half of it at least but still rampant craziness! Space heaters involved and I guess that some people just don't get how dangerous electricity can be.

sounds like a homeowner electrical job. i love finding stuff like this. i was working in 3 family apartment building in fall river a couple years ago. i was just moving a switch from one wall tothe other. i opened the celing and found the biggest rats nest of wires i ever seen. you name it it was probably up there. romex spliced to BX spliced to knob and tube. thhn ran across teh celing for 3 way switches and in the panel a 50 amp 2 pole breaker feeding 2 #14 conductors that were feeding the basement circuits :). could you post pics of what you found?

Don't be too critical here of HO's doing their own thing (i.e. wiring their own home)!! Many here think that is absolutely OK !!

i personally believe if someone is not qualified to do the work (licensed) they shouldnt do it. they can buy all the books they want on house wiring but do they fully understand the danger they are putting themselves in? also im sorry to hear about those people dying in a fire caused by a space heater. its a shame to hear about that kind of stuff happening when it could of been avoided

It's not like there's much to this whole electrical thing anyway, Home Depot sells a book for $19.95 that'll teach you everythimg you need to know! Wiring " It's as easy as 1,2,3". Kinda makes me feel like I wasted 8000 hours in the field and three years of night school to get my license.

Just make sure you put those grounds up so your amps don't get spilled on the floor!;)

I will go out on a limb here, my guess is the family was not from this country, the mobile home was set up on a farm for help to live in? The reason I ask this is I have seen people do some shady, immoral and illegal hook ups for people to live in ether for their farm help or as rental property for Mexicans who are not legal and will not and/or cannot report these conditions.

No, actually they were just a poor country family just trying to survive. I just wonder how much rent they were being charged. There are plenty of the other types here though.

OK, I seen the same also here. The owner of the property should be taken to the cleaners
