Hello Mike,

It has come to my attention that someone in the satellite industry is working very hard to do away with bonding/grounding satellite dishes. I was wondering what your take on this is. I think it's a mistake not only for the performance of the system but most of all the safety to the customer and their property.

Thank You

From the lightning side, I observe that sat dishes are no longer as large as they used to be and no longer the highest point on the roof.
Another big issue is the lost or bootleg neutral where the dish folks would not want the current on their cable, but that leaves the occupant on the hook.

I would ask you this. Why would this be unsafe?

I have not heard of anyone trying to do this in an organized way.

However, I am not sure that it could not be done in a way that did not introduce additional hazards.

How would you feel about a mostly plastic satellite dish and mounting arrangement? How would you even bond that?

And if they were to use isolated signals, what benefit would there be to grounding the signal wire?
