I'm wiring a new home that is a few hundred yards from the Pacific ocean and am concerned about corrosion in the service panel. I'm thinking it would be wise to use NoAlux or a silicon based dielectric grease on the bus bars before installing breakers. I've heard that Vasoline also works well for this application. I would appreciate your thoughts on this practice.

Issues of concern when utilizing any lubricate is.

Does it violate the manufacture warranty?

What did/does the AHJ think? Would be a real PIA to remove after installing if he/she frowned on the application.

Excessive grease melting (due to breaker stab connection) and carrying dust may/can be a better conductor.

There may be a few more and in my usual mode I'll come up with them as soon as I post this.

I would stay away from the No-Alux compounds that are out there. #2 electrical grease is my choice when I work around the salt water.

I'm not familiar with #2 electrical grease, Paul. Is this a UL approved product specifically made to be used on bus bars? A Google search for electrical grease turns up lots of products designed for automotive applications, but that's about it.

When grease is required as part of service we utilize Mobilgrease 28 Synthetic Lubrication Grease. This was recommended to us by several manufactures.
