So I'm installing some antique lamps, and I came across a nipple size that I can't find a crossbar for. The size is somewhere between the standard 1/8 and 1/4 nipples, closer to 1/4". Anyone know a lamp parts supplier that might carry this size? I've looked all over the internet, but the only sizes I can find are 1/8, 1/4, and 3/8.

Right here.
There's not much you can't find in either the Angelo Brothers or Satco catalog to fix up an old lamp or old fixture.

I might suggest you just put your nipple through a big hole in a crossbar and put a flat nut on each side. If you have the old 3/8 iron pipe stud, Satco has those crossbars on page 78 of my link, and flat nuts on page 81 if you want to go that route.

I worked on a chandelier at a salon a couple months back. I think it was made in Germany and the nipples appeared to be metric. The sockets that were ordered did not thread on so a late night run to Home Depot to buy standard 1/4" nipples

Thanks for the links guys, I'll check 'em out.

I thought of that too, but I can't find the correct flat nut to fit the threads.

I wonder if this is my problem.

The threads are actually on the end of a curved brass tube that is the arm of the fixture, so there's no replacing it. Have to find a way. I think I might be able to use a standard crossbar and drill holes through it to match the old fixture stud, than bolt it on w/ some 10/32s.

In an aside to this, how many of you out there re-wire these old fixtures and say to hell w/ the UL listing? I found some pretty nasty wires in a couple of these fixtures, and i figure it would make me sleep better knowing I replaced the wires. But I won't go through the process of getting it listed. Not sure I would know how to anyway.

I'm not sure you really need to say to hell with UL when you rewire them. Just use UR parts and wire them up as good or better than they were before.

I was under the assumption that the fixture itself would be listed, not the individual parts. I will use UL listed parts to re-build a couple of them. They are old enough that I'd be pretty surprised if they were ever listed.
