Had the ad for these bits pop up while browsing the forum, and these things look pretty neat. Anyone have any experience with these? I'm trying also to find out if you can sharpen these? I've had the standard bit, and you can sharpen these pretty good with just your average file.

Thanks,

Brett

IMO they're a big improvement over ordinary spade bits. They require less force, don't foul as easily in young wood, and don't leave quite as big a mess at the exit wound. That outer cutting edge is quite handy for drilling clean holes in old plaster, also.

I have a few with 16" shafts that are quite useful for old work, also.

I've sharpened them successfully using a triangular needle file.

One of my guys has them and loves them.

What's MUCH better IMO is the Vermont American WoodBore. I'll look for a link.

Check out these bits. I've been using them for at least 12 years, and swear by them. I keep them in 3/4", 1", 1 1/8", and 1 3/8" for various applications. They're fairly cheap, and last forever, unless of course you hit too many nails.

I used to use those Vermont speed bits a lot. The local big box stores quit stocking them. There is a lifetime warranty on them too. I think that's why the big box stores quit stocking them.

I can't find them locally anymore either. I ordered a bunch online a few years ago, and am ready to do so again. Sears may still carry them in store.
