Any change to grounding AWG in 2020 NEC?

#8 has to be in a raceway, #6 may need a raceway so I usually just run #4 unless I know I can run #6 without protection. I have herd of inspectors not accepting #6 if run through drilled joist holes supported every 16" through the joists. So I am paranoid

Earth ground for a sub panel.

I bought a 500 ft spool of 6AWG due to the number of docks/marinas in my area, and the AHJ requires minimum #6. Waste of money and space on the truck to have 2 spools of wire so close in size.
