Any Logical Reasoning

If the engineer is calling for a 400A switch in a switchboard to feed a 400A panel and VD is not an issue and they are calling for (2) sets of #500 is there any logical reasoning for this? Those feeders could handle 760A. Is it because of possibly changing things in future and installing equipment requiring more power and they would be covered?

Since the feeder originates at a 400 amp switch (although it could be) I doubt that future expansion is being considered. As Charlie said ask the engineer.
