Hello all, I hear the company I work for is thinking of using the services of Beneco Inc. Has any one have any experience with them? We are non union, and do about 70% Prevailing Wage work and have all of the wage (wage AND fringe benefit = benefit package) on our check and then from there our medical is then deducted.

Correct me if I am wrong... but with the serves of Beneco my employer 'could' take my fringe benefit out of my check? Does he have the right to do so? The amount on medical taken out VS the amount of my fringe benefits is a good size.

The point that I am getting to is, do I have any rights NOT to enroll? And if so, where could I start to find the info to back it up?

Thanks to all that reply... and if you would like to send my Personal Message (PM) please do.

I am in Maryland and I'm pretty sure it is the same everywhere but not positive.
I spent about 13 years doing prevailing wage work. The prevailing wage sheet posted on the job site ( by law)will show wage + benefits.

The employer is required by law to pay you the wage. When it comes to the benefit part the employer is allowed by law to, deduct health insurance,holiday/vacation pay.The remaining can be deposited into a retirement account. If your employer chooses to do this there is not much you can do short of quitting.

When the employer I worked for decided to go 95% prevailing wage work he paid us 100% of everything. Then after the first year he changed up and did as I described. He saved on holiday /vacation pay as it was taken from our benefit packages. He also took insurance out of those who had it through the company.

This was challenged and upheld by the state of Maryland. The wage and hour people would visit the job sites regularly to verify that everyone was being paid properly.( He asked )

Another thing is prevailing wage jobs require what is called certified payroll. Your employer must submit the pay sheets for the job on a regular basis. They must show names of employees, classification (j-man,apprentice,laborer),hours worked, money paid in check and money paid to benefit packages.
Contact you states labor board for more information for your state.
Oh yeah the company I worked for used Beneco for a while too
