Have a few questions in regards to the Chicago licesnse exam...

Is the exam based off the most current year NEC book? (2014)
Where can I register for the exam?
Where are the testing facilities for the exam?
How much does the exam cost?

I've been topped out for approximately 5 years now and currently working in my shop's office as an estimator/project manager. I want to make myself as marketable as possible and would love to obtain my state/chicago license. As a local 701 member, is there any issue with me going for the 134 license? I don't see an issue with that but my boss said that may not be "doable". Thoughts?

Call the BA for 701, They should know the answer to all of these questions. On the off chance they don't. The nice folks over at 134 will know for sure. If you completed an apprenticeship you may not have to test at all.

Will.

The city of Chicago code lags behind the NEC by quite a bit. I believe that the current CEC is about equal to the 1999 NEC with some exceptions.

As far as good study material, I offer this bit of advice. The company that publishes the CEC is called Index publishing. They offer a two or three day seminar to prep for the CEC test. I am not sure how much it is now, but I am guessing it is less than $500. This includes an unmarked copy of the CEC, which you will need to take the test. If you have a good working knowledge of the NEC and take that seminar, you should be able to pass the test without difficulty.

I hope this helps, and good luck.
