Has anyone here taken the LA state license test for elect. contractor recently? I hope to take it in Jan. '08, and want to know if it's still the '93 NEC. The state website says it is, but I saw on someone else's site recently that it was now the '02 code. Just want to be sure. I currently am using the '05 Handbook, and want to get the updates for '08, but need to get a copy of the '93 for the test if it's still the same. And yes, we ARE still in the dark ages! Thanks!

I took the LA contractors exam in Baton Rouge in July 07, it was the 93 code and they provided the code book for the exam.

I am scheduled to take the LA exam in Baton Rouge on January 8, and I have also been looking for a 1993 code. The only place that I have been able to locate one is the NFPA, and the cost was $82.50 including shipping. I searched ebay and amazon books for a used one, but I could not locate one. I have ordered from the NFPA, and it is supposed to arrive today.

Just today I checked the Mike Holts web site info. for LA and it states that we use 2002 NEC, which was adopted in 2004. I would logically assume that it should be updated hence the magnitude of work being done in our area (New Orleans). There are too much old "fathered" or "rigged" variances of what should be done in the electrical field. I have seen the old bare wires in the attic from before my time still being used because it's out-of-sight-out-of-mind. If anything, this area should be the focus of any new additions to the NEC with considerations of our prone attractions to hazardous ordeals.
