A friend was telling me yesterday about a renovation he was working on. While working on some older wiring they found someone had taped and wrapped a wire around the armor of an old bx cable on each end and used it as a traveller for a 3-way. At least they were courteous enough to tape the armor so it wouldn't energize the box. I've seen and heard of a lot of wacky installs, but hadn't seen this one yet.

That is definitely one I have never seen.

Nice... It's amazing how creative people get.... get r dun!!!

I saw a tuna can as a outside junction box...

I opened up a 4 way switch and found the homeowner had changed it out to a three way switch and put one of the travelers on the green screw. His Complaint? Shorts out when I turn on the light in the hall and cant figure out why.

While gutting a kitchen I saw a length of garden house in the wall run thru holes in the studs for the outlets with solid wires running thru it for the countertop recepts. Should've taken a pic of that one.

at least they used a garden hose... :)

I seen a disconnect mounted outside, to make it weather-proof, simply take a rubbermaid tub and mount the disconnect inside, then place lid back on tub. BAM!!! Weather-proof disconnect.

Prototype ENT!

It 's amazing what people will do with wiring to make it work, even something that could kill them. But those same people won't touch plumbing because it might cause a flood.

I AGREE 100%.... When was the last time someone died from replacing a toilet... I can't wait for Home Depot to get sued for giving out bad Install info...

At a festival in Milwaukee, one of the restaurant booths didn't have a 208v receptacle to power an oven. The people cut the end of the cord off and stripped off the insulation a good 3 inches. They opened up the nearest JB on the wall, pulled the wire nuts off and just balled the wire up on each phase. They at least had the courtesy to give the twisted mess of copper a few wraps of duct tape......
