Re: Anyone have a source for a phenolic label maker?

Is this a name tag such as black on white where the plastic has a black surface over white and yo actually ingrave of hot stamp through the black to expose the white?

Phenolic labels are the rigid plastic, adhesive labels where the lettering is physically engraved into the material. The material looks similar to countertop laminate.

Any trophy shop will make them for you. I have thousands made every year from a small trophy shop, if you can not find a local company to do it for you, send me a PM and I will give you the number of this shop.

Roger, Just what I was going to get at. If you aren't going to do a lot of it a trophy shop is the place to go. I believe manufacturers of panels and switchboards may have a device that actually stamps through the serface color to expose the subtraight.

Wouldn't it be nice if you could make 'em yerself though, that's what I'm getting at. If you add up what having "thousands made every year" at the little trophy shop is costing you, how many of whatever machine they're using are you buying every year?

Re: Anyone have a source for a phenolic label maker?

We actually had a machine, but paying an hourly wage, materials, and overall aggravation to use it, was more than sending the list to a shop and and being done with it. We still used it for small numbers of labels for a while but that eventually faded away.

If someone wanted an extra income and was willing to piddle with it at night after their day job, it could be an extra income.

Fair enough. Back to my original question then. Do you have a source for those machines you could pass on?

Tim, I don't know where to tell you to go for information on the machines, I would suggest trying a google search.

http://www.gravograph.com/usa/index.php is one source. google can give you others.

quite frankly if you decide to make them on your own, it is a losing proposition, especially if you pay an electrician wages to run the machine.

i suggest having them made by someone else if you really want them. best bet is to buy a dymo type label maker and use adhesive labels. they work well enough for most cases.

This is what I found doing a simple search which you can do also.
If you have office or shop staff, they would be the ones to be trained to make labels. It would be best if this were included in their other work which may allow you to make your labels with more affordable labor.
