I got a voice mail a few weeks ago. Man said he & partners had houses to rewire, etc. Told me to e mail his partner. Got a reply a week or so later that they had lots of houses coming up, etc. They help find housing for relocated employees, etc. They claim to pay 75% down, then 1/2 remainder at start & remainder of that on completion. Also, not to worry about price, that they care far more about quality. I seldom hear that from any other customers and 75% down is unheard of. I'd love it but can't help smelling a scam here. Also, 2nd guy had me email a 3rd. I heard back from him today & he had me e mail a 4th guy. Very strange.

Has anyone else heard from these people or others like them? PM me for name of co. if desired.

I am responding all the way. I want to know what the scam is. I'm sure sooner or later I will be asked for money or they will try some version of sending overpayments by check and asking for my check for the difference, then the check bounces. Of course, I will send no money. I will send the state attorney general copies of it all and let them investigate these people.

some days i am evil.

My experience has been every time someone says "not to worry about the price" its translated into "you're not going to get paid" :D

It is a scam! I did a google search on the email address of the sender and found out they have tried this with other trades. They try to string you along and get you to register with some payment company for around $60.00

I had a similar call last night. Seemed suspicious from the beginning and I really had no intention of doing any follow up.

I got a similar call at 10:30 on a Friday or Saturday night. The guy left a message, but has not returned my email. My guess is that they are getting our info. from these here forums, it is a great place to one stop shop for their target customers (us)!

"Hi this is Don Hopkins, we have several single family older units that we want to have re-wired. These jobs are going to be stretched out over time... I'm going to be away for a week or so... Please email my partner Tim... tim@alcar.info ..."

Sound familiar?

called us last night too!

i haven't gotten my call yet..... nobody loves me.... snif.

all i get are these asian guys who call my work cellphone
three times a week average, the record is three times in
a DAY, to sell me oxycontin or vicodin without a prescription
over the phone.

been going on like that for 7 or 8 years now. i can recognize
about half of them by voice alone...

"Hallo? Allan? US Pharmacy here....."

they have about 8 "real" numbers they call from, and those
are set up in YouMail with a very special, personalized greeting...
their own voice played back to them... so they end up talking
to themselves....

the ones who call in with weird garbage numbers that show up
from Skype, i handle personally....

ooh. thank you.... how fun.....

How does one get from a user name here on MH to a phone number?

I'll bet they are getting the phone numbers from somewhere else and calling everyone with their robo-caller, which is not legal in many states.

i really doubt that this is the source of their contact information...
what is interesting to me is where they are harvesting the information from.

we are in all different states, so no commonality with state licensing agencies.
what is the common denominator here? i bet this is a much larger thing than
we are aware of.. we are talking to each other, so we know it's going on,
but i bet electrical contractors are being carpet bombed with this.

now, in calif you can harvest info from the CSLB license site, but it's tedious,
unless someone has figured an easy way to query the database....
and i'm thinking that is what is going on... the states that have license information
that can be pinged are the ones that everyone is getting hits off of.

and if you get referred to another person, in a different state, or get
relayed thru several different people, any fraud investigation would
be derailed pretty well... and if it's for less than a couple hundred bucks,
nobody's gonna bother... what shows up on whois is scam central, seems like.
