Taking State Certification Test
Taking State Certification Test
I agree with Cavie.
Take the time and put out the effort to just take the state test.
This will allow you to work in any county without having to go through the hassle of getting registered everywhere which is extremely time consuming and expensive.
The test is not given very often, so get the application and start wading through it.
You can count on it being rejected a couple of times but hang in there, don't let them discourage you. (Many people give up).
Mike Holt has a boot camp in Orlando the week before the test that lasts for six days and on the 7th, you go in and take the test.
Cost is around $1,000.00 depending on which program you sign up for (check the website).
Reference materials will cost about another $1,000.00.
Testing fees are about $450.
You will need to supply a couple of credit checks at about $50 per.
Hotel in Orlando is another $400.
Miscellaneous expenses, who knows.
I figure that by the time I am done, I will have $4,000.00 +/- wrapped up in this.
As you can see, there is quite an investment in getting state certified, but that puts you at the top of the heap.
If you can get through this whole process, it will show your commitment to the trade and I am sure you will feel pretty good about it when it is over.
I am 52 and hold master's licenses in New England, and have been in the trade for about thirty years, but this old dog intends to learn some new tricks.
Good Luck Threephase.
