I'm curious if anyone has taken the Master's that's proctored thru Thomson Prometric.

If so, how challenging was it and how many years experience in the trade do you have?

Florida Masters

I am taking the state master's one week from Tuesday after Mike Holt's "Boot Camp".
I will let you know how it goes.
From everything I have heard, if you can get through the application process here in Florida, the state exam is a breeze.
If you are taking the master's test in one of the counties, find a good prep course like the one offered by Jake Leahy in West Palm Beach and you should be okay.

Yes I feel the same way. The application process seems difficult to say the least. I understand you need to show your credentials and valid work experience but come on...........

I'm probalby going to take it at the county level here in Polk of Hillsborough as opposed to taking it at the State level.

What is Mike Holt's 'boot camp'? How long was that? Cost?

Don't waste you time on the county level in Florida. Same test. If you do that, you will have to produce $$$$ and lost of documentation for very city and county you try to work in. Every year. Take the State EC exam and be done with it. Walk into any office and proudce you card and proof of insurance and you done.

Taking State Certification Test

Taking State Certification Test

I agree with Cavie.
Take the time and put out the effort to just take the state test.
This will allow you to work in any county without having to go through the hassle of getting registered everywhere which is extremely time consuming and expensive.
The test is not given very often, so get the application and start wading through it.
You can count on it being rejected a couple of times but hang in there, don't let them discourage you. (Many people give up).
Mike Holt has a boot camp in Orlando the week before the test that lasts for six days and on the 7th, you go in and take the test.
Cost is around $1,000.00 depending on which program you sign up for (check the website).
Reference materials will cost about another $1,000.00.
Testing fees are about $450.
You will need to supply a couple of credit checks at about $50 per.
Hotel in Orlando is another $400.
Miscellaneous expenses, who knows.
I figure that by the time I am done, I will have $4,000.00 +/- wrapped up in this.
As you can see, there is quite an investment in getting state certified, but that puts you at the top of the heap.
If you can get through this whole process, it will show your commitment to the trade and I am sure you will feel pretty good about it when it is over.
I am 52 and hold master's licenses in New England, and have been in the trade for about thirty years, but this old dog intends to learn some new tricks.
Good Luck Threephase.
If I can be of any help, feel free to contact me through private messaging.

Florida Unlimited License

I agree with dezwitinc. I have taken and passed the state unlimited exam the first time around. I also went to "Mike's Boot Camp" and would highly recommend it. The main goal of his class is to teach everyone time management and how to take an exam. Mike has it down to a science and it WORKS. If you are willing to shell out the $$ for the exam, than dont waste it, Sign up for his Boot Camp in Orlando..

Well, almost. Most of the municipalities that I have registered in want MORE money to register in their County / City. Granted, it's usually only $30 or $40 but how many counties are there in Florida ?

I agree, get the state unlimited.
