It has the 4 buss bars that run underneath it. Looking through the parts sent with the crane it looks like each buss has a lug that clamps to the end of it. We've read through the code book and it looks like we're going to stub a pipe pretty close to the bussing, bond bush the end of it, and then sleeve some MC through it(jacket removed), right to the buss. Seems weird to me leaving exposed conductors out in the open, even though it's probably 20' off the ground, but 610.11(B) seems to allow it for short lengths. We ran our idea by our inspector today and he was okay with it.

I'm just wondering if this is how everyone else usually does this?

Thanks.

I've worked on a few of them, and they've all been wired that way. As far as the exposed conductors: The whole rail is an exposed conductor. I really don't think the terminations or a couple of inches of feeder wire is gonna make any difference.

Check out 610.13(B)

You are on track with stubbing the conduit close and perhaps weatherhead or your bushing is fine too for inside. Then think service drop with drip loops and length for vibration and expansion considerations.

For smaller conductors like #10, I would see the installer made tight springy coils. I saw that a lot in Houston on bridge cranes. I tried to copy it a couple of times and then gave up and put only drip loops.
