F frostback Member Jun 24, 2003 #1 IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT IF MY CALCULATION USING THE STANDARD CALCULATION EXCEEDS 100AMPS I CAN USE THE OPTIONAL CALCULATION DESCRIBED IN 220-30 TO REDUCE THE APARTMENT FEEDER SIZES TO 60,70,80,OR 90A AS CALCULATED PER 220-30. IS THIS CORRECT

The section specifically states: "For a dwelling having a TOTAL CONNECTED LOAD served......" This just means that if you add up all the loads to be served, and they exceed 100-amps, the optional mehtod may be used. Per 230.79(D), other than One-family Dwellings may have a service no smaller than 60-amp.
