apartment/townhouses

incoming services, i am looking for alittle help. for townhouses, i know when you come in to the panel for each townhouse you have to run to each panel, not underground to one then another, then another. any help

hi sleepy again , i guess my second question is townhouse two, three, or four together are they considered separate buildings.

See the definition of "building" in Article 100.

If there are firewalls between them, then I'd venture a "yes" to your question. Really, it comes down to the AHJ.

Every townhome I've ever seen has had it's own meter.

I don't know what you are really looking for.
If there is a common area to all (common basement to all and accessible to all) then the panels can all be located together. (if you have a common area, now you either need a public panel, or redundant lighting systems for public areas from each unit being serviced by that common area)
If there is no common area, each panel must be in its respective unit.
The meters can be ganged together. Generally they are outside and in an accessible area.

As to seperate buildings, george is correct.

As for running individual raceways to each panel or running into one then on to the next...
Run separate conduits for each panel.
There are ways to use Service Equipment as raceways, but they do not pertain to this situation of townhomes (2 separate residences)
