during a remodel, an ec used the old service entrance cable(se) as the feeder to the new service. (i.e. 2 hots, neutral). how much current could be present through the appliances.

You say he used it as a feeder. Does that mean that there is a main OCPD ahead of this feeder?

The unbalance current on the neutral will travel back to the source (the power company transformer) by all paths available.

What are the EGCs in the branch circuits emanating from the "new service" connecting to, that are also connected to by the EGCs coming from the "old service"?

If an appliance, such as a gas range, is supplied by old service branch circuit, and the gas line is conductive and bonded to the new service, then part of the unbalance current in the "old service" will head through the gas range to the MBJ (main bonding jumper) at the "new service".

yes, they installed a new meter/main with provisions. they then removed the se cable from old meter and attached it to a junction box beside the new m/m. they ran a egc from the m/m and bonded it to the jb. the old se cable had strands that wrap around the other two conductors. they tied this into the neutral of the m/m. i read in an old post that this could imposecurrent on the grounding conductors and the metal panel enclosures
