Hello, I own a small Electrical and Lighting Company based in SO CA. I'm basically a one man shop but now I'm looking to get someone to help possibly 3/4 days a week. I'm C-10 licenced and need to know if I hire someone if I would need him to have an apprenticeship card and if so is something that he should already have or something I sign him up for after he starts working???Thanks, Jerry P.S. I have been a member of this FANTASTIC forum for awhile and I don't post alot but want to say Thanks to all. I'm on here most every morning, I enjoy browsing the forums and learned alot on here...Thanks again, Jerry:cool:

Granted, I am on the other side of the world..............I don't see why the apprentice, helper, mechanic, whatever you prefer to call him(or her) would need any credentials. I actually was put through an apprenticeship course(4 years) by my employer(s) and believe that to be a great thing for motivation and learning the things we just don't have time to teach on the job-site. Same as education re-reimbursement, maybe a little better cause you know what they are being taught is what you need them to be learning. If you need a grunt and not much more, why not give someone the gift of a trade if they are worthy. If you need more help than that, maybe look to contact a local union shop or apprenticeship school(ABC, IEC.......) and see if anyone in school is out of work.

Some jurisdiction license apprentices, just another tax IMO, on those that can least afford more money out of their pockets.
