I had a phone conversation with an inspector today who wants to meet me on site of one of my recent jobs. He said the cable connectors are loose in the 2x4 drop in fixtures, and also wants me to show him exactly which portions of the building we did.

I explained that the connectors are the Arlington snap-in connectors, so they may appear "loose", but there is no locknut, so that is how they are.

He said those fittings are listed for MC cable but not BX. I said I'm looking at a box right now and they are liseted for MC, AC, and Flex. (I was standing in my shop at the time of the call.) He said, yea, but not BX. I said BX is AC. He said we can talk about it when we meet.

Huh?

Sorry, just needed to rant.

Roger,

Thanks. I'm meeting him tomorrow. At first I was thinking I'd just explain it to him, that he it was a quick conversation and he'd get it in person. The more I'm thinking about it I'm not so sure, so I am bringing the download with me.

He presented his concern in a conversation last week and that's when I explained the quick snap's. I had to reschedule the meeting which was supposed to be today, and that's when he said "Ive been thinking about what you said about the quicksnaps and.......not for BX"

This makes me realize that he's really thinking ther's something wrong with the connectors, enough that he's bringing it up a 2nd time and looking for a reason to fail the job.

One problem is he has a "hotshot" assistant who's possibly filling his head with ideas which are not his own. I've done dozens of jobs with this inspector and never had an issue. His assistant and I had a few disagreements on the only job he inspectod for me. It concerned some existing conditions which were none of my responsibility, and did not affect the portions of the job on which I was working.

The inspector I'm meeting tomorrow is a really nice guy and I expect things to go well. He just floored me this morning with that statement, and I had to share.

Thanks again,

John

Met inspector yesterday. He said he didn't hear me on the phone when I said "AC is BX". Or something like that. He's a really nice guy, but I'm not sure he knew that AC is BX. Everything turned out OK.

I've noticed a lot of people have selective hearing and memory when the realize they were wrong?

Is that why I frequently don't hear what my wife says? Boy! That is scary.;) :)
