Question: What would be an approved method of testing an installed and operational switch for proper grounding?

Would..say..a cord plugged into another 120V non-GFI receptacle to supply a 120V potential (hot side) to a load (wiggy or lamp socket?) and then test your plate screw heads for your 'return' path to test for ground be "approved"?...or is there an approved ground tester for this application for inspectors use?

Use an ohmmeter (or just a continuity tester) and a known reference ground such as a metallic water pipe, receptacle ground terminal, the ground bus in a panel, etc...

Depends on what type of switch you are talking about and what spec, if any you have to conform to. Chances are it is as simple as Rogers post.

That is the test I performed. AHJ has subsequently inspected and passed. I found just one plate screw that was not screwed into the switch strap because it was so far recessed into the old circa 1966, 3-layer wall covering.

If I were AHJ I would have been more concerned with all the NM cable installed in a condo high rise entering the opening through the front of plaster ring. But hey, I just do what my GC tells me..or he gets someone else and I am out of a job.
