I had an inspector tell me he could not use the Ideal AFCI tester to trip the breaker because after 3 tests the breaker becomes useless or non functioning. Has anyone heard about this ? The inspectors just press the reset button on the breaker.

The TEST button is the only "official" way to test these breakers, per UL.

So could it be that they say that because if other "unoffical testers" are used they wear out

I have tripped a SQ-D AFCI over 50 times in a number of tests I was performing and it continued to work fine.
