arc fault for repair

If you replace a section of damaged wire(romex) and it is more then 6' but not a new circuit or an extension of a circuit does it require arc fault, 2017 NEC.

Thanks, i see it is even in my 2011 book. Our state only required bedrooms until Oct 2016 when they adopted the whole section of NEC 2014 with no amendment.
