Hood - AFCI is needed if it is on 15 or 20 amp 120 volt circuit and is in any of the rooms mentioned in 210.12 - kitchens are on the list.
GFCI would only be required if cord and plug connected and again on a 15 or 20 amp 120 volt circuit and if the receptacle was within 6 feet of a sink.
Can say the same for AFCI protection with a refrigerator - but there is more chance of seeing a refrigerator in a room that doesn't require AFCI - like a garage, porch, unfinished basement, but many of those areas will still require GFCI for a 15/20 amp 120 volt receptacle - it is the receptacle that would require GFCI protection not specifically the refrigerator.
