Are Arc Fault protected circuits required in hotel guest rooms?
We have in the past (3 years ago) completed a 4 story retirement facility where Arc Fault protection was called out for in the specifications for the guest rooms. Last year we just finished a 3 story hotel where the arc fault circuits were not required. In the retirement facility we have a almost weekly call back to repair or re-set the arc fault circuit breakers due to nuisance tripping. Usually caused by a maid plugging a vacuum into one of the duplex outlets "protected" by arc fault. Because of this the retirement facilty is having their maintenance people replace all of the Arc Fault circuit breakers with standard circuit breakers.
All of the facilities mentioned are located in San Luis Obispo County, CA.
