Arc fault requirements

I would say the air handler does not need AFCI protection but the washer and dryer receptacles in the hall closet I would say that needs AFCI protection 210.12(B) (2008).

Assuming you are refering to the 2008 NEC intent:

(B) Dwelling Units. All 15A or 20A, 120V branch circuits that supply "outlets" in dwelling unit family rooms, dining rooms, living rooms, parlors, libraries, dens, bedrooms, sun rooms, recreation rooms, closets, hallways or similar areas SHALL BE protected by listed AFCI device of the combination type.

So......remember "outlet" is very broad......

So....are you speaking of a "Common Area" outside of a dwelling unit or are the locations you speak of within a Dwelling Unit...;)
