arc fault vs. gfi

what effect does a gfi have on a arc fault breaker? for example; you run a small appliance circuit into the kitchen counter top where a gfi is required. then you would splice off and take the small appliance circuit in the dining per 210.52 (B) (1). you would feed it all with a arc fault breaker and put a gfi receptacle in the kitchen. would the gfi work properly?

Yes, What you have described is a common install.

Because the ground fault setting is lower on the receptacle, it will trip quicker on a ground fault than the breaker, but otherwise they work fine together.

I would be reluctant to install an arc fault in the kitchen. I would keep the dining room separate but yes, they should be compatible.
