Hello folks first time here. Had a accident 3 weeks ago were 480 volt 20 amp arc flashed about a foot from my face. Its been 3 weeks and my eyes are still bothering me. Eye doctor says there fine that the irretation is gone. Anyone out there have experience with arc flash recovery? I would like to think I wont have to live the rest of my life with this discomfort. Any thoughts?

No arc flashes at work but did get a couple of flashes with an arc welder. Had a terrible headache but the best I remember is was gone the next day. I don't remember my eyes giving me trouble for a long time either, certainly not for days or even weeks. I would think a couple of days would have resolved the issue (unless material actually entered the eye).

Could your share your experience on how you received the arc flash, what type of PPE you were wearing? Our plant is currently trying to implement NFPA 70E and I think your story could be great example of why we need to embrace 70E.

It was explained to me that other than any obviously seen surface/skin damage from the flash, the back of the retina gets an instant "sunburn". . Your retina might recover 100% and it might not. . I'm sure that your doctor could answer that question better than anyone here.

Has he looked into your eyes and examined the retina on the backwall of your eye ?
