arc flash detector

apparently this guy has invented a portable arc flash detector that somehow can be interfaced with an upstream shunt trip to minimize the fault ? great idea ( I guess it would only apply if the service was set up to have the upstream disconnect) I was wondering if anyone had seen anything else about this and if this was going to be incorporated into any gear in the near future ?

Well, good idea but it would have to be incorperated into a relay or trip unit system that accepted the signal for the system and operate in a few mSec. This system might work if the patent is purchased by an OEM to incorperate into its relays.

ABB makes a relay that does this already for MV switchgear aplications but it is an installed system.
