Article 110.16 Flash Protection. requires field marking to warn qualified persons of potential electric arc flash hazards. The marking shall be located so as to be clearly visible to qualified persons before examination, adjustment, servicing, or maintenance of the equipment.

Has anyone seen manufacturers placing a standard sign on equipment, or is this requirement falling under the responsibility of the installer? Are their standard signs available? The NEC requires a field marked warning, not necessarily a calculation, just something like "warning arc flash hazard present"?
Since NFPA 70E is not a code requirement, the maintenance person will perform the calculation at that time, if required by internal policy.

Re: Arc Flash signage

Hello Ron. Yes, I believe the burden is still on the installer. If you were to search this site for arc-flash signage, you will find dozens of responses to this very question.
