Hi everyone,

Does anyone know where to sign up for an Arc Flash study analysis course? preferably around Minneapolis, MN. I am an electrical engineer, but I have not done yet any arc flash studies, but my company wants me to get trained. Which software should I be trained on SKM tool or ETAP?

Which software is more popular for Arc Flash Studies?

thank you!

Which software does you company have a license to use (or is willing to purchase, if you don't already have it)? In either case, you need to learn how use the software to create a model of the power distribution system. You also need to be able to give the software the information it needs. For example, a voltage drop study only needs such things as power sources, cable sizes, and cable lengths. An arc flash study requires make, model, and settings of all overcurrent devices. Once you have that, doing the calculation itself is then no more than a click of a link.

Welcome to the forum.

You will get many opinions on software for arc flash studies. If your company already has a software product it is using for short circuit studies, you may be stuck with that. I believe the two most popular software packages are EasyPower and SKM. You can get a demo version to try but you should also investigate things such as technical support, webinars, training options, etc.

I use EasyPower and have been since 2003 and find their tech support second to none. If I have a device that is in the field and not in the EasyPower library, I can request it be added and at the most, it is a two day turnaround.
