Arc Flash Study Cost?

Looking into arc flash studies and wondering if there is a ballpark cost based off of system size.

Is there a cost based off of bus count and number of protective devices?

Or is there an hourly breakdown of device modeling and buses?

Will data collection be billed at a different rate?

If any further clarification is needed or there is really no metric, please advise.

Thanks,

Pete

Hello,

I do arc flash studies for a living and can tell you there are many variables to providing a quote. Some are:
  1. Is there an up to date one line?
  2. How far does the client want to go? Some will initially do only one or two panels down from main switchboard and some will go to every disconnect switch.
  3. I will quote separate line items on a lump sum price for data collection, lump sum price for engineering, labels on a $/label cost, expenses billed at cost and possibly travel time for out of state work.
  4. Data collect is usually done by our electrician who has been trained in data collection for studies and has been doing the work for a number of years.
  5. How detailed is the study? My studies follow IEEE 1584.1-2013, IEEE Guide for the Specification of Scope and Deliverable Requirements for an Arc-Flash Hazard Calculation Study in Accordance with IEEE Std 1584

  • For example, my studies contain short circuit, equipment duty, coordination TCCs, incident energy, model one line as a pdf and AutoCad. I also make recommendations to reduce high levels of incident energy and/or improve coordination using existing devices.

If you want more or a proposal, PM me.
