Are AFCI's on there way out?

I was recently told by the AHJ in Shelby Township, Michigan that the AFCI requirement in dwelling units is on its way out. Any body want to comment on that? Thanks.

Here in CA you are allowed to make the code more stringent, but not less.

Requirement was dropped in February, as the posts in the link iwire provided show.

Also, the entire state abides by the same laws, the Michigan Building Code and the Michigan Residential Code, which references parts, but not all, of the NEC.
