Are High Voltage placards required on the entry doors to our electrical entry/backup generator room according to NEC or OSHA? Any other requirements as far as signage?

Re: Are High Voltage placards required...

According to the NFPA 70E-2000 edition,Chapter 1,Article 8.2.3 " Warning Signs. Entrances to rooms and other guarded locations that contain exposed live parts shall be marked with conspicuous warning signs forbidding unqualified persons to enter." I think it's better to post more info than not enough.

Re: Are High Voltage placards required...

Just found another reference in 70E. Article 3-4.7 This also references ANSI Standard Z535, Table 3-4.11 of Part II. Hope these help out.

Here is a link to a company that makes safety signs and their web site is a wealth of information: www.safetylabel.com

2002 NEC
110-27. Guarding of Live Parts
(c) Warning Signs. Entrances to rooms and other guarded locations that contain exposed live parts shall be marked with conspicuous warning signs forbidding unqualified persons to enter.
OSHA has the same text in it's Standard 1910.303

Re: Are High Voltage placards required...

Thanks to all for your help. I had read the reference to "live" and had wondered if it applied to this situation since all disconnects and breaker panels are enclosed. But I think I will do as you say and post it anyway. Again thanks.
Jim
