Are multiple grounding electrodes in a service allowed?

Please reference the attached PDF file for the project layout.

The question is simply: Can anyone cite EXACTLY in the 2005 NEC section 250 whether or not you can have multiple grounding electrodes connecting to the grounding conductor on a service (except at the main service disconnect/meter base)?

The electrician's proposed changes are to add 2 additional grounding electrodes, one at the entrance to the dwelling and one at the case/enclosure of the genset. Is this allowed or a code violation? Please cite exact references in NEC.

It is completely clear that the service must be bonded at the main disconnect to the utility neutral, the service neutral conductor, the grounding conductor and the grounding electrode. It is completely clear that the service must forever past the main disconnect maintain isolation between the neutral conductor and grounding conductor and that the grounding conductor must bond the case/enclosure of each additional disconnect/panel/subpanel.

To be sure, it is UNCLEAR whether these additional grounding electrodes are allowed to bond to the grounding conductor at either of the 2 points indicated above.

For completeness, the ATS/genset is non-separately derived, with solid, non-switched, isolated neutral and separate ground conductor lugs.

Thanks for your help,

Huck

Huck not only are they allowed they may well be required.

Each separate building or structure served by a service, feeder or more then one branch circuit must have a grounding electrode system.

250.32(A)

Even if not required you can always add as many grounding electrodes as you want to the equipment grounding conductor at any location.

250.54

All this is a separate issue than where the neutral is bonded to ground.
