are tags required for ground clamps?

This pic was sent to me by another Building official. He asked if tags were now required (our state just adopted the 2014). I answered no, but, what do you guys think?

There is nothing in the NEC to require you to use a tag like that.

Glad there wasn't some hidden NEC verbiage. It certainly is not a metal device to protect the ground clamp from abuse, IMHO.

Per Chicago electrical code "Chapter 86" this ground tag must be attached to Ground Rods indicating that the ground connection must never be disconnected. NEC approved nonferrous metal tag, attaches to the ground clamp giving warning against its removal

Even if the NEC required it...NEC does not "approve" anything.

Just as a warning tag has the word "Warning" on it, an NEC approved tag has to have the words "NEC Approved" on it. No need for actual approval by anyone. :lol:
