I'm looking at getting a new multimeter. I noticed a Milwaukee, and it said it needed to be calibrated once a year. Are all meter's like this? Thank you for your help.

I have 2 Flukes, one I've had about 12 years and have only had to have it calibrated once. Once a year sounds pretty often to me. Unless you were doing some type of control work and had to be precise I would say you wouldn't need to. But I'm not sure about the Milwaukee though.

We get all our test equipment calibrated every year a Cal firm sends two men for two days. Prior to this we sent ALL test equipment to be calibrated yearly.

In my opinion it depends on what you do with your test equipment. Do you really need to know if the voltage is really 277 or does it matter of your meter reads 275. Do you
have to document your readings? Complete reports?

i used to work in HV electronics before becoming a sparky.

all power sources, meters, meggers, everything was calibrated monthly.

most of what we do in the field doesn't need calibrated equipment.
i've got 4 fluke meters. i could send them out for calibration, but
plugging them into the same circuit at the same time and seeing
that all the meters show the same thing works to my satisfaction.

having stuff calibrated to NBS references is more common in a
ISO 9XXX manufacturing situation, or aerospace or government
contract fabrication than in construction.

now, zog and brian need calibration, for the stuff they do....
