Are voltage rated gloves required by welders?

I do not believe so as the material they work with is grounded. The gloves they wear are to guard against burns and such.

I think that if the open circuit voltage of the welder is over 50 volts, the OSHA rules would require voltage rated gloves.

I would say a range of 15 to 100 volts (per google), I also looked into a lot of high end welding gloves and there are NO voltage ratings mentioned anywhere! As I said before, you are not supposed to be "in" the circuit and a glove is meant to keep the hot stuff off of you.

There's more danger from the harmful rays given off from arc welding. I know three welders who all have had operations to remove growths in the same area around the neck and chest areas which weren't fully covered.

Generally what is the open circuit voltage of a welder?

Usually about 70-80 volts is typical, we are currently switching hundreds of our welders to LOC (low open circuit voltage) through the software. This will leave them at 8-9 volts to meet the LOC requirement we set.
